WHEN DO NEWBORN SESSIONS TAKE PLACE? Ideally newborn sessions are held between 5-14 days. This is because brand new babies are the most sleepy and curly so we can get them in those adorable squishy poses. Also, baby acne tends to kick in around the 2nd week and while I will retouch blemishes out of your final images, excessive acne can be difficult to remove entirely. While I really encourage and prefer that we do the session within 2 weeks I realize that sometimes there are reasons that the session cannot be done within this time frame. Should this happen, I will still photograph "older" newborns, however, some of those desired posed/sleepy baby shots may not happen.
WHERE DO NEWBORN SESSIONS TAKE PLACE? Newborn sessions will take place in my beautiful studio located in Atascadero, CA. In unique circumstances, I can come to your home with my studio set up.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST? Sessions typically last 2 1/2 hours...3 hours if we really need a little extra time. Believe me, the time will fly by so fast between preparing each set up, soothing/calming/nursing baby, and positioning baby.

HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION WHEN I’M NOT SURE WHEN BABY WILL BE BORN? I highly suggest booking your session during your second trimester to guarantee yourself a spot on my newborn list. I can only take a limited amount each month. Obviously many babies are not often born on their due date (none of my 3 children were!) so we just use your due date as a rough estimate. Once your baby is born, you will need to notify me within a couple day of birth so we can schedule your actual date/time.
CAN I USE SOMETHING I MADE OR PURCHASED TO INCLUDE IN THE SESSION? Sure! Personal items will make your photos all the more special to you. However, I suggest not more than 2 props because I do have an ample supply of props/headbands/hats/sets that I've accumulated that match my style of photography, the backdrops, and work with the flow of the session. My sets are designed to fit and photograph beautifully on newborns. Be sure to try on the prop prior to your session to make sure it fits, often times hats are way too big or tutus will irritate baby. I do have plenty of adorable hats/headbands/sets that are custom designed to fit brand-new babies so don't worry if you don't have anything.
CAN I EMAIL YOU MY PINTEREST IDEAS OR SHOTS I’VE SEEN ON OTHER SITES? Yes, requests or inspirations for shots are great! That being said, while I do appreciate ideas and inspiration, I will not replicate or copy someone else's work. I have spent time establishing my own style, so be sure you've looked through my site so you can get a feel for my images and see if we are a good fit. It is also my priority to keep babies safe, so I will not position newborn babies in any manner that will cause them any harm or make them unhappy.
CAN SIBLINGS AND PARENTS BE IN A FEW SHOTS? Yes! We can certainly do a couple of mom/dad and siblings. I do request that if there are young siblings who will be included in the session, that there be another parent or adult take them to the park or tend to them outside of the studio after they have finished their photos so they do not disrupt our efforts to capture the best photos of your newborn. Young toddlers can become bored, irritated or make loud noises that often startle the newborn and disrupt the newborn posing.
DO I GET TO CHOOSE WHICH PHOTOS WILL BE IN MY GALLERY? Please trust that I will choose the best images to edit and share in your gallery. I will sift out the unfocused/techinically incorrect images. Many shots are duplicates so the best of these sets will be chosen. On occasion if we have a baby that super cooperative I will have many extra shots. If this is the case, these images will show up in your gallery and you will have opportunity to purchase them.
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Feed your baby 2 1/2 hours prior to your session time. Then, keep baby awake for much of this time before your session. You can do this by bathing them, keeping them in a diaper and unswaddled, and talking to them. This is REALLLLLLY important for encouraging a sleepy baby for your session. Have baby dressed in a button up or zipper sleeper. You may feed baby upon your arrival to the studio.
